Santiago, Chile

 

Chile is a beautiful country. Flying in I was impressed with the brown hills covered with green agriculture. We landed in Santiago in the morning and it was hot already. It's spring here and unseasonably warm. Chile in its 15th year of a mega drought. Santiago is projected to be future desert land.

The incredible diversity of the land is similar to California in so many ways, but it's even more diverse geographically, due to Patagonia and proximity to Antartica.

I am feeling so fulfilled being here. Experiencing this incredible place and people.

Per our Austral guide, the people here generally love strawberries and avocados.

The biggest export is timber, agriculture is up there, though. It's cherry season. Mining of lithium is huge. They love coffee but they don't grow it.

The buildings are beautiful but they are not very old many of them, due to the frequent earthquakes the country experiences. The city of Santiago has 8 million people. The women and men seem to be equal, there are people of different colors, styles. I highly recommend visiting Chile!
